And that is the catch, if you belong to yourself you will never have to belong anywhere else. Because if you don’t belong to yourself first, if you don’t value yourself first, if you don’t love yourself first and if you don’t believe in yourself first – you will never truly belong anywhere. But it will never give you the satisfaction, love and fulfilment that you need. This disguise will definitely help you get the attention you want. In short, we just turn into people-pleasers. We try to hide our flaws, camouflage our true personas and manipulate others into liking us. In the process of fitting in and belonging someplace, we often try to change ourselves. Or the least that we expect is to belong in our families, to be supported in our failures and loved unconditionally. In today’s social media fiasco, we all want to be validated.
